The Special Region Police of Yogyakarta (Polda DIY) has mapped mudik routes prone to landslides as a precaution against extreme weather potentially occurring during Lebaran 2026 exodus. Traffic Director of Polda DIY, Police Grand Commissioner Arie Prasetya Syafaat, said the mapping requires extra vigilance, especially at landslide-prone points and locations that frequently experience trees falling due to strong winds.

From the mapping results, Kulon Progo Regency is one of the main focus areas because it has four high-risk landslide points that need careful monitoring. ‘In Kulon Progo, the routes to watch include the Dekso road toward Samigaluh, the Pengasih toward Sermo, and the connecting routes Wates to Kokap and Temon to Kokap,’ he said on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Similar hazards were detected in Gunungkidul Regency, specifically on the Wedi road toward Wonosari in the Gedangsari area, the Semanu road linking to Pracimantoro, and the main Wonosari to Yogyakarta route in the Kepil and Putat areas.

Meanwhile, the risk of trees falling was anticipated in Bantul Regency, particularly along the South Ring Road near Singosaren and Banguntapan, and Imogiri Barat Road at Simpang Empat Wojo.

In addition to natural factors, for this Lebaran transportation period this year, Arie asked travellers to note the functional operation changes on the Jogja-Solo Toll Road segment from Prambanan to Purwomartani. The toll road will be opened for 14 days from 16-29 March 2026.

‘This toll road section will only function as an entrance to the Purwomartani Toll Gate for vehicles leaving Yogyakarta towards Klaten, Solo, and surrounding areas,’ he said.

Operation of this functional toll route will be limited from 06:00 to 18:00 local time daily with strict monitoring parameters.

Given the distance between the Jogja-Solo arterial road to the Purwomartani Toll Gate is only about 586 metres, authorities have prepared various traffic engineering scenarios to prevent queues from spilling onto the main road. ‘We will implement a ramp open/close system at the Purwomartani Ramp On, diversions and traffic pull, and traffic management through the deployment of traffic signalling devices (APILL) at the Raden Ronggo Three-Way intersection and Kalasan Five-Way intersection or Proliman,’ he said.

Additionally, the authorities will strive to ensure smooth traffic along the Jogja-Solo corridor by closing mass at the U-turns. Of the 12 U-turns in the area, Polda DIY has decided to open only three: in front of AAU, Telkom, and Sendang Ayu.
