Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed several areas in Sleman Regency from midday until the afternoon. Dozens of trees were reported toppled, and around a dozen homes suffered damage to roofs and fences.

Kepala Pelaksana BPBD Sleman, R. Haris Martapa, confirmed that the extreme weather occurred across several kapanewons. According to provisional data, the Kalasan kapanewon area recorded the greatest amount of damage.

‘The weather impact report describes heavy rain and strong winds. The highest concentrations were in Kalasan kapanewon; it also hit Ngaglik, Depok, Ngemplak, and Gamping,’ Haris said when contacted on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

He detailed that in the Senden 2, Selomartani, Kalasan area, at least 11 residents’ houses sustained damage due to roofing tiles being swept by the wind. In other points within the same kapanewon, large trees of teak (jati), melinjo, and bamboo felled, hitting houses and blocking village access roads.

‘In Senden 2, most damage was to roofs or tiles torn off by the wind. There were also teak and bamboo trees in Tamanmartani that struck house roofs, and pakel trees that damaged fences and terraces,’ he explained.

Not only buildings, but public facilities were affected. In Condongcatur, Depok, a ketapang tree toppled onto the Wi‑Fi network and briefly blocked a road.

In Sariharjo, Ngaglik, a longan tree toppled and struck several motorcycles parked there.

‘A joint team from the BPBD’s TRC, residents, volunteers, the Police (Polri), and the TNI were deployed to handle today’s incidents. Some have already been resolved,’ he said.

In addition to the gusty winds, the high rainfall also caused infrastructure damage. In Mejing Wetan, Ambarketawang, Gamping, the road foundation in Perum Darusalam 1 was reported cracked due to the erosive action of rainwater.

‘For unresolved matters this afternoon, the response will continue tomorrow morning, unless there is an emergency or a developing incident,’ he concluded.
