Around 40,000 worshippers perform Tarawih prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque
Jerusalem (ANTARA) - Approximately 40,000 worshippers performed the Isya and Tarawih prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city of Jerusalem on Tuesday evening (24/2), according to the Islamic Waqf Department.
The department stated that around 40,000 worshippers gathered at the mosque complex to perform the Isya and Tarawih prayers amidst strict restrictions imposed by the Zionist Israeli authorities.
Israeli occupation forces were deployed on the outskirts and at the entrances to the Old City of Jerusalem to check the identification cards of worshippers heading to the mosque.
Israel has tightened restrictions on Palestinian worshippers seeking to pray in the occupied West Bank city, requiring them to obtain security permits in advance.
Ahead of Ramadan, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas extended Ramadan greetings to all Palestinians both at home and abroad, as well as to Arab and Islamic nations.
President Abbas congratulated the Palestinian people on performing the Ramadan fast, praising their steadfastness in their homeland.
He also expressed hope that on this occasion, the aspirations of the Palestinian people for freedom and independence, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, would soon be realised.
