Army Responds to Soldier's Rampage Damaging Shop in Kemayoran

A brawl at a shop in the Sumur Batu area of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, has suddenly come under the spotlight after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

In the circulating footage, acts of violence and destruction are visible, allegedly involving a TNI soldier and the shopkeeper. The video shows a situation that initially started as a verbal argument between a customer and the female shopkeeper.

However, the atmosphere quickly heated up. A man in black clothing wearing a white helmet is seen throwing punches towards the female shopkeeper. When the male shopkeeper tried to protect her, the perpetrator became even more aggressive.

It did not stop there; the perpetrator also damaged several shop facilities. The display case and refrigerator were smashed using a 3-kilogram LPG gas cylinder.

The brawl then grew larger until local residents intervened to break it up and remove the perpetrator from the location. The incident has been taken over by the TNI Military Police.

“Yes (we are monitoring). It has been handled by the POM,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metro Jakarta Central Police Resort, Assistant Commissioner General of Police Roby Saputra, on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

Meanwhile, the Head of the TNI AD Information Service, Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono, provided an explanation that the incident began with a misunderstanding during a transaction at the shop, which then developed into a quarrel.

In that event, the TNI AD soldier named Sertu AW actually sustained injuries from being stabbed by the shop owner and is currently receiving medical treatment at Hermina Hospital in Kemayoran,” said Donny.

He emphasised that the entire sequence of events is currently being thoroughly investigated by the relevant parties. The situation at the location is reported to have returned to normal. Police and TNI apparatus are still coordinating regarding the case.

“We urge the public not to be easily provoked by video clips circulating on social media that may not fully depict the incident. The TNI AD assures that every soldier involved will be processed in accordance with applicable regulations if proven to have committed violations,” he stated.
