Army officer's son shot dead in Depok

JAKARTA (JP): A son of a retired Army lieutenant colonel was shot dead early yesterday allegedly by a police sergeant in Depok, the victim's family said.

Morgue staffer Sofyan of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital quoted the victim's relatives as saying that 35-year-old Rosidin was shot on Jl. Tanjakan Kramat in Citayam district after a minor argument with the sergeant.

Rosidin was shot once in the back of his head and twice in his back, Sofyan said.

"His relatives, who came here to claim his body this afternoon, said the dispute between Rosidin and the policeman was just a trivial one.

"But, they didn't offer any further information."

Sofyan said that Depok Police officers sent Rosidin's body to the morgue in the early hours of yesterday without supplying details about the victim.

"The police didn't say anything. They just dropped off the body and left."

A few hours later, Sofyan said, two military police officers came to the morgue and told staff that Rosidin was one of their distant relatives.

Both officers refused to comment on the shooting and background of the victim, he said. (04)
