Army Munitions Depot in Madiun Regency Explodes
A massive explosion reportedly occurred at the Indonesian Army’s Central Munitions Depot (Gupusmu) located in Saradan District, Madiun Regency, East Java, on Thursday. Field reports indicate the explosion took place on Thursday morning and resulted in fatalities and injuries among military personnel, although there has been no official confirmation regarding the chronology or casualties from the relevant authorities. The 081/Dhirotsaha Jaya Military Resort Command (Korem) confirmed the incident. However, a comprehensive detailed explanation falls under the authority of the central level, specifically the V/Brawijaya Regional Military Command and the Armed Forces Headquarters. “The central command will deliver the results later,” said Head of Public Relations for Korem 081/DSJ, Major Inf. Ismail, when contacted by journalists. Following the incident, military personnel immediately secured the location by closing access to the depot area to support the evacuation and sterilisation process. Victims were also promptly evacuated to the Caruban Regional General Hospital in Madiun Regency for further treatment. Observations by journalists at the Caruban Regional General Hospital on Thursday afternoon indicated that security had been tightened. A number of military personnel were on standby around the Emergency Department where the victims were being treated, as well as in the mortuary area. Meanwhile, at the explosion site, officers maintained strict security and restricted activities around the Central Munitions Depot. Several officials from the V/Brawijaya Regional Military Command and military police were also reported to have arrived at the location for further handling.
