The Indonesian Army claims to have numerous social programmes that have a tangible impact on communities. However, according to Head of Army Public Affairs Brigadier General Donny Pramono, these initiatives remain largely underexposed to the public. ‘The military is present to assist communities in difficult areas. Many social programmes operating over the years have never been publicised,’ Donny said during an interview in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 29 May 2026. Soldiers also frequently provide logistical support to isolated communities. He cited the Bridge Task Force, which constructs connectivity infrastructure across regions. To date, the Army has completed 523 bridges nationwide. In non-disaster areas, 223 bridges were built, comprising two Bailey bridges, 38 Armco bridges, 85 concrete bridges, and 98 pioneer bridges. ‘Soldiers work around the clock, regardless of time, for the people,’ he added. Donny also highlighted the role of the Papua Task Force, active since Operation Trikora in 1960. He stated that the task force regularly conducts territorial development and community social activities in Papua. ‘All efforts begin with persuasive measures and uphold humanitarian values,’ Donny said. The Army’s presence in remote areas also helps communities access education, healthcare, and basic infrastructure development.
