Army Chief General Maruli Asks Families of Troops in Lebanon Not to Worry After 3 TNI Soldiers Fall

Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak has asked the families of soldiers currently serving in the conflict area not to worry, following the incident in which three TNI soldiers from UNIFIL fell while carrying out a world peacekeeping mission under the United Nations (UN) mandate in Lebanon. According to Maruli, the personnel have been trained to handle various situations in the field. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that every assignment in a conflict area carries risks that the soldiers must face. “Actually, there’s no need to worry; they themselves know what needs to be done. But whatever it is, there are certainly risks amid such events. The important thing is to pray that everything goes well,” Maruli said at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Saturday night, 4 April 2026. He stressed that every TNI soldier in Lebanon has been equipped with strict standard operating procedures (SOP). In certain conflict conditions, there are specific instructions for personnel to immediately take shelter in bunkers to minimise fatal risks. “Actually, they already have SOPs on what must be done in what conditions. To be honest, I have never been there myself, so I cannot boldly describe details on whether their bunkers are 100 percent safe. I think we will wait for how their SOPs are implemented,” he stated. Meanwhile, regarding the handling after the incident that caused three TNI soldiers to fall, General Maruli affirmed that comprehensive investigation and resolution steps have been prepared by relevant authorities in Indonesia to gain a clearer picture of the exact cause of the attack on the peacekeeping forces. “So, hopefully, the follow-up resolution will be planned by TNI Headquarters, the Ministry of Defence, and possibly on behalf of the state, to make this incident clearer,” the KSAD revealed. Previously, the Indonesian Government requested the UN Security Council to hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss the attack on peacekeeping forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Indonesia strongly condemned all forms of attacks on UN personnel or facilities and demanded a thorough investigation into the fatal incident.
