Army captain caught with ecstasy and 'shabu-shabu'

JAKARTA (JP): An Army captain was arrested with at least three other people for allegedly possessing 13 ecstasy pills and a few grams of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) in an apartment in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, a police officer said on Wednesday.

The operational control chief of the North Jakarta Police precinct, Maj. Bayu, said the 41-year-old captain, identified only by his initials SH, and the three men were caught in a raid on Sunday morning.

He said the captain was still being questioned by officers from the National Police, before being handed over to the Military Police.

"Officers from the Tanjung Priok subprecinct made the arrest at about 4 a.m. in apartment number 2006 at the Mitra Bahari Apartments," Bayu said.

The three other suspects were identified as Bong Kiong Foeang, alias Edi Gunawan, Sukma. A. and Chandra.

Edi said five ecstasy pills belonged to him, while the remainder belonged to the Army captain. Police say the packets of shabu-shabu belonged to Chandra.

On Aug. 8, West Jakarta Police detectives apprehended two men in possession of drugs at a hotel. One of them was later identified as Second Lt. Agus Isrok, an active member of the Army's Special Force (Kopassus), and son of Gen. Subagyo Hadisiswoyo, then the Army's chief of staff.

Until now, the case -- which is being handled by the Jakarta Military Police -- remains a mystery.

Separately, Jakarta Police chief of detectives Col. Alex Bambang Riatmodjo said on Wednesday a smoking device and a packet of shabu-shabu was confiscated from a 38-year-old Chinese national at Kemayoran Apartment on Tuesday morning.

"At about 7 a.m. on Tuesday, an anonymous individual informed the security post at the apartment block that Ka Chun (the suspect) was behaving suspiciously. On his own initiative, a security guard at the apartment block raided Ka's apartment, found the drugs, and handed the man and the goods over to us," Alex said.

On the same day, Handi Sudianto, 37, was apprehended with 15 grams of shabu-shabu, 50 ecstasy pills and a smoking device at his home in Citra Raya housing complex, Cikupa, Tangerang.

Meanwhile, South Jakarta Police arrested seven suspects over possession of 153.6 kilograms of marijuana on Jl. Nyai Dasima, Sawah Lama, Ciputat, early Tuesday morning.

Officers of the Pancoran subprecinct arrested two other drug suspects on Monday night over possession of 2.8 kilograms of dried marijuana on Jl. Duren Tiga, South Jakarta. (ylt)
