Army building catches fire

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Fire destroyed army satellite communications building and the local headquarters of the Association of the Indonesian Private Radio Operators on Saturday.

The fire, which began around 3 a.m., destroyed most of the Army's satellite communications equipment and the association's property.

Antara reported local police as saying that one firefighter died from a fall while ascending his truck.

The local fire brigade and residents managed to contain the fire after one hour, preventing it from spreading to the heavily populated residential area.

The cause of the fire, the fourth in the mayoralty over the past two months, is still under investigation.
