Armed robbery in East Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): A group of eight men armed with guns and machetes broke into a residential house in Kampung Tengah subdistrict in East Jakarta early yesterday and stole hundreds of grams of gold jewelry and Rp 1.7 million in cash.

No fatalities were reported, but one person received a facial injury.

An officer from Makassar police subprecinct said the robbers, who arrived in two large Suzuki cars, broke into Hartono's house on Jl. Inpres Raya and threatened his family with their weapons.

Hartono's son-in-law, Wengky Winarizal, received a facial wound when he tried to resist the robbers, said the officer who asked not to be named.

Wengky, an official at the Institute of State Personnel Administration (BAKN), was taken to the nearby Harapan Bunda hospital on Jl. Raya Bogor.

The officer said that the robbers also left with two mobile phones.

He added that an investigation was currently underway. (ivy)
