Armed Robbery Gang Targeting Cooperative Employees in Bekasi Arrested, Two Shot

Police have uncovered the activities of an armed robbery gang targeting cooperative customers in Cibitung, Bekasi Regency, West Java. They had reportedly carried out three similar attacks.

“Based on statements provided by the suspects, they had committed violent theft three times using the same modus operandi in Bekasi Regency, Bekasi City, and East Jakarta,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, to reporters on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

The perpetrators did not know their victims. In the most recent case, the perpetrators followed a cooperative customer from a bank before carrying out the robbery.

“No, they did not know each other. The perpetrators acted at random. They spotted the victim at the bank, then followed them, and only then executed the robbery,” he said.

The robbery occurred on Wednesday (5/8) in broad daylight and went viral on social media. In circulating video footage, the victim is seen riding a motorcycle and stopping at a stall.

Before the victim could even park the motorcycle, two men armed with sharp weapons suddenly attacked. The two perpetrators slashed the victim repeatedly until the victim crashed into a vendor’s cart and nearly toppled over.

The perpetrators then fled with the victim’s bag. Several people at the scene appeared shocked. A woman was also seen rescuing a small child who was eating at the location when the robbery occurred.

Two Suspects Shot

Previously, police arrested six perpetrators of the armed robbery targeting a cooperative employee in Cibitung, Bekasi Regency. Two of the perpetrators resisted arrest.

Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, said his team took firm and measured action by shooting the resisting perpetrators.

“As for the two perpetrators, because both resisted during the arrest, we took firm and measured action against the two suspects,” Iman said.

All six perpetrators are currently detained at Polda Metro Jaya. Based on examination results, the perpetrators are known to have carried out their actions several times in various locations.
