Armed robbers arrested in bust

JAKARTA: West Jakarta Police have arrested members of a gang that allegedly shoots its victims in the leg before stealing their motorcycles.

West Jakarta Police chief of detectives Comr. Herry Rudolf Nahak told a media briefing on Thursday that the gang was well organized.

The suspects, arrested in Cengkareng and Kapuk on Monday and Wednesday, were Sobrawi, 34, Nandar, 24, Saiful Amin, 25, Yogi Ulfa, 26, Arison, 23, and the receiver Udin Samsudin, 27.

Police also confiscated a 38-caliber rifle, two bullets and four motorcycles.

Herry said police were still tracking down four other similar groups, which combined may be responsible for at least a dozen thefts. Several of the victims were shot. -- JP
