Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have apprehended a suspected gang of armed motorcycle thieves in Tanjung Duren Selatan, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta.

“According to the information received, the suspects have been arrested by the Motor Vehicle Sub-Directorate of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Subdit Ranmor Ditreskrimum) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Grogol Petamburan Police Station, AKP Alexander Tengbunan, when contacted for confirmation in Jakarta on Monday.

However, Alexander did not elaborate on the details of the arrests. “The case is being handled by the Motor Vehicle Sub-Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police,” he said.

The brazen act by the four-member gang was captured on CCTV at the location on Saturday (21 February) at approximately 2.43pm Western Indonesian Time.

In the footage, the suspects arrived at the scene on two motorcycles.

One suspect, wearing a black t-shirt, long jeans and a white helmet, approached the targeted motorcycle and immediately began breaking open the ignition lock.

Meanwhile, another suspect wearing a green jacket, long trousers, a black bag and a black cap was seen drawing a firearm with his right hand.

As his accomplice worked on breaking the motorcycle’s ignition lock, he pointed the weapon downward whilst keeping watch on the surrounding area.

Shortly afterwards, the suspect tampering with the ignition lock successfully completed the job.

The gunman then took over the stolen motorcycle, started the engine, and fled the scene until he disappeared from the CCTV’s field of view.
