Armed Motorcycle Thief in Tangerang Arrested, Stolen Goods Sold Cheaply
Police have arrested a man with the initials IS (36), suspected of motorcycle theft in Tangerang City. The suspect armed himself with a sickle while carrying out his crimes.
“We are not stopping at one suspect. Every piece of information will continue to be developed to uncover other perpetrators, including receivers of stolen goods and networks involved in motor vehicle theft,” said Acting Tangerang City Police Chief Commissioner Eko Bagus Riyadi in a statement on Monday (24/8/2026).
Tangerang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKBP Parikhesit said suspect IS was arrested by the Opsnal Team of Unit 1 Krimum, led by IPDA Algifari Hafiz, on Thursday (20/8). The suspect was arrested while about to commit a crime, carrying a sharp weapon and a T-key.
“When detained, the suspect was found carrying a sickle and a T-key stored inside the motorcycle seat. From the examination results, we then developed the case to a number of theft locations where the suspect had previously operated,” he said.
To police, the suspect admitted to having committed motorcycle theft several times in the Jatiuwung and Karawaci areas together with his accomplice named Pudin, who is still being sought by police.
One of the thefts uncovered occurred on Jalan Samiaji, Nusajaya Urban Village, Karawaci District, Tangerang City. The stolen motorcycle was sold to a person with the initials K in Pandeglang, Banten, for Rp4 million.
“The suspect admitted to receiving a share of Rp2 million from the sale of the stolen motorcycle. Some of the money was then used to buy clothes, which have now also been seized as evidence,” he explained.
Police seized a number of items as evidence, including a sickle, a T-key with its key bits, two mobile phones, and one motorcycle. The suspect has been detained and charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code on aggravated theft, which carries a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison.
