Armed Motorcycle Theft Suspect Strikes Again in Tangerang
A motorcycle theft occurred in the parking area of SDIT Al Istiqomah school in Karawaci District, Tangerang City, Banten. The suspected perpetrator even pointed a pistol at a teacher who caught him in the act and fired one shot into the air before fleeing with the stolen motorcycle.
School surveillance camera (CCTV) footage recorded the moments of the theft. The incident occurred whilst the motorcycle parking area in the school grounds was still busy with teacher activity during the school dismissal period on Wednesday (11 March).
In the footage, two perpetrators arrived on a motorcycle and entered the school grounds without the knowledge of security personnel. Several teachers in the vicinity did not suspect anything as they assumed the two were collecting students.
Shortly afterwards, one perpetrator dismounted and walked about observing the situation. He then approached the target motorcycle. In less than three minutes, the perpetrator succeeded in breaking the motorcycle lock using a T-shaped key and starting the vehicle’s engine.
The perpetrator’s actions were then witnessed by a teacher. However, the perpetrator immediately pulled out a pistol and pointed it at the teacher.
Agus, the teacher who witnessed the theft, said he attempted to chase whilst shouting at the perpetrator. However, he was forced to retreat after seeing the perpetrator carrying a firearm on Thursday (12 March).
“Initially I came out of the school with a friend. In the car park the perpetrator parked next to my motorcycle. I called him out because it did not seem like he was a parent picking up a student,” Agus stated.
“I was already suspicious, and it turned out he did indeed steal my friend’s motorcycle. I tried to approach, but it turned out he was carrying a firearm. I immediately retreated because I was worried. The perpetrator continued pointing the pistol at me and before leaving the location, he managed to fire one shot into the air,” he added.
Following the incident, Agus together with school officials reported the case to Kelapa Dua Police Substation. They hope the motorcycle theft perpetrator is soon arrested as his actions are deemed increasingly alarming to the community and were carried out using a firearm.
Armed theft also occurred in Tangerang City in late February. Two perpetrators, one of whom dared to fire a shot into the air when caught stealing a motorcycle in Pondok Bahar Housing Estate, Karang Tengah District, Tangerang City, Banten, on Wednesday (25 February).
The incident occurred when the residential area was busy with residents seeking food for breaking the fast.
Based on surveillance camera (CCTV) footage from a resident’s house, two men appeared to be pushing a motorcycle belonging to the victim. However, the motorcycle owner discovered the act and immediately shouted at the perpetrators calling them thieves.
