The Motor Vehicle Crime Unit of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has arrested two suspected perpetrators of an armed motor vehicle theft that took place in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta.

The theft was captured on CCTV and the footage subsequently circulated on social media. In the video, one of the suspects can be seen holding a firearm pointed downward whilst keeping watch as an accomplice tampered with the vehicle’s lock.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police Public Relations Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto stated that of the two suspects apprehended, one is classified as a child in conflict with the law. Both were arrested on Monday (23 February) in the Cikupa area of Tangerang Regency, Banten.

“The two suspects who were successfully apprehended include a perpetrator with the initials ANJ (18 years old) and another who is a minor,” Budi told reporters on Monday (23 February).

Budi revealed that during the arrest, police also seized a number of items of evidence, including a homemade firearm, one motorcycle, and tools believed to have been used to carry out the theft.

Budi added that authorities are still pursuing two other suspects believed to have been involved in the crime.

“Two other suspects are still being pursued and have been placed on the wanted persons list,” he said.
