Armed men rob BCA in Kuta

KUTA, Bali: Four men stormed the local branch of Bank Central Asia (BCA) on Tuesday morning, shooting a security guard and fleeing with at least Rp 73 million in cash.

Denpasar Police detective chief Comr. Budi Wasono said the robbery took place at around 9:15 a.m.

"Without issuing any warning, one of the robbers fired a shot at a security guard, while the other three shouted, ordering employees to lie down on the floor," he said.

The 30-year-old security guard, I Nyoman Suita, sustained a shot wound to his right thigh. When he tried to attack the robbers with a knife, they overcame him, punching and kicking him repeatedly.

As Suita got out of the building to find help, the robbers, who were carrying two revolvers, proceeded to empty the bank's safes, while threatening the scared employees.

They then walked calmly out of the bank and escaped on two motorcycles.

"We have found two .38 caliber bullets at the scene," Wasono said. --JP
