Armed Man Arrested at Trump's Golf Club

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated on Tuesday that it had handed the case of an armed man arrested at US President Donald Trump’s golf club in the coastal city of Rancho Palos Verdes over to the District Attorney’s Office. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to the property on Sunday around 3.30 p.m. local time after federal agents reported a suspicious individual. The announcement came just hours before Trump was scheduled to attend a fundraising dinner hosted by the Republican National Committee at the golf club. The man was photographing and recording video as he walked around the golf club area, the department said, adding that he was suspected of monitoring security planning activities. Deputies identified the man as Jeanine John Taele, 38, and found a magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition in his pocket. Officers searched his vehicle and discovered a pistol with a round already chambered and an additional magazine containing ammunition, the sheriff’s department detailed. The man was detained on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing armour-piercing or prohibited ammunition, the sheriff’s department said. According to county jail records, Taele remained held without bail as of Tuesday. Sheriff’s detectives assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force searched Taele’s home on Monday under a search warrant, the department continued. Investigators seized a rifle that was reportedly illegally modified, a pistol, a bulletproof vest, high-capacity magazines, pistol and rifle ammunition, and several notebooks. The notebooks contained statements deemed concerning. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department did not disclose further details. Officers also learned that Taele was under investigation by police in El Segundo, another city in Los Angeles County, for alleged robbery.
