Armed Criminal Group Shoots Two Civilians in Yahukimo, Perpetrators Being Hunted
The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) Kodap XVI Yahukimo shot two civilians on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in Dekai, Yahukimo, Papua Pegunungan. Peace Cartenz Operations Chief Irjen Faizal Ramadhani stated that the shooting occurred on Tuesday (28/4) at around 11:22 WIT. The incident began when the two victims were passing from the intersection towards the workers’ mess in the PJPR Complex. During their journey, the chief said, the victims were followed by the perpetrators until the shooting took place. “In this incident, two civilians became victims, with initials AA (26) and NM (36),” he said in a written statement on Wednesday (29/4). He mentioned that both victims sustained gunshot wounds to the arm and thigh and have been evacuated to Dekai Hospital for medical treatment. As a result of the shooting, Faizal said the victims’ four-wheeled vehicle was damaged. Meanwhile, the two perpetrators, who were on a motorcycle, are still being sought. Furthermore, he said that the crime scene processing has also been carried out together with the Yahukimo Police Resort. Faizal stated that a joint team is continuing intensive investigations to uncover the perpetrators’ identities and delve into the motives behind the attack. “Officers have moved quickly to process the crime scene, search for clues and evidence in the field, and pursue the perpetrators. The investigation is still ongoing to ensure the perpetrators are quickly revealed and can be prosecuted according to applicable law,” he said. He added that the modus operandi used by the perpetrators is suspected to be a quick attack on passing civilians, which has the potential to cause security disturbances and unrest in the community. “This is a serious act of violence targeting civilians suddenly. Public safety is the top priority, so every form of violence will be responded to quickly, measured, and professionally,” he emphasised. Faizal stressed that there is no tolerance for any form of violence against civilians. He assured that the perpetrators will be dealt with firmly in accordance with applicable legal provisions, with severe punishment threats. “Every armed violent act against the public is a serious criminal offence. We ensure that the perpetrators will be hunted and prosecuted to completion,” he emphasised.
