A number of Brimob police officers armed with long rifles were stationed directly in front of the entrance gate as investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrived at the private residence of the former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, on Friday (5/6/2026).

Field observations showed that access to the residence was strictly tightened, with the main front gate closed securely. KPK investigators arrived at Silmy’s residence at approximately 14:00 WIB and proceeded through the garage entrance.

From the initial operation, the KPK successfully detained the Head of West Jakarta Immigration and several other parties, which ultimately led to Silmy Karim in connection with the processing of Limited Stay Permits (KITAS) and Permanent Stay Permits (KITAP).

As an internal disciplinary measure, it has been noted that the official has deactivated Deputy Minister Silmy Karim, who has been named a suspect, along with several other officials implicated in the legal case. The agency has also ensured that it will provide access to data, documents, and necessary statements to KPK investigators to accelerate a transparent and thorough disclosure of the case.

During the investigation process, Silmy, acting as the Director General of Immigration for 2023-2024, is alleged to have engaged in extortion by ‘requesting a share’ from the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals through the then-Director of Stay Permits, Jaya Saputra.

The KPK suspects that parties within the Directorate General of Immigration or the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services received at least Rp 145.5 billion, either directly or through intermediaries, during the 2022-2026 period.
