Arief Budiman to sue varsity

SALATIGA, Central Java: Satya Wacana Christian University
Lecturer Arief Budiman plans to sue the college's rector and
foundation for slandering his name and reputation.

Arief told reporters that he was disputing in particular a
circular issued by the university's foundation expressing its
concern over remarks he reportedly made, and reprinted in the
press, that discredited the university.

The circular also said that Arief was receiving administrative
sanctions for his behavior.

Arief said that unless the foundation withdraws the circular,
he plans to file a libel suit.

Foundation chairman Haryono Semangung said he respected
Arief's decision to take the matter to court and Rector John
Ihalauw defended the circular as fully justifiable. Both men said
they were prepared to meet Arief in court. (har/emb)
