Arie right to retire
Arie right to retire
From Media Indonesia
I hail Arie Sudewo's plan to retire from his position in the management of the Indonesian National Sports Committee following the failure of the Indonesian contingent at the recent Southeast Asian Games in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The retirement does not necessarily represent an admission of mistakes but serves, rather, as a warning to sports leaders concerning the current training system and over-optimism on the part of coaches and other sports trainers. Arie Sudewo has demonstrated a gentlemanly attitude and a high sense of responsibility regarding the mission entrusted to him.
One may ask: Will retirement solve the problem? We can ask the same question: Will not retiring solve the problem? To retire or not to retire is not the central issue. What we want is better performance in future sport events.
