Ari Sigit to be tried Tuesday

JAKARTA: The trial of Ari Haryo Wibowo, also known as Ari Sigit, the grandson of former President Soeharto, is scheduled to be held in the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.

Judge Herri Swantoro will preside over the trial, according to the court's schedule.

The 31-year-old son of Sigit Harjojudanto is accused of violating Article 1 of Emergency Law No. 12/1951 on the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

He has been detained since Aug. 14, after police found firearms and 70 bullets in his Menteng home during a search related to attempts to locate Ari's fugitive uncle, Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra.-JP
