Argo Bromo Anggrek–KRL Accident, YLKI: Handling of Victims Must Be Top Priority
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Consumers’ Foundation (YLKI) assesses that the handling of victims must be the top priority in the train accident involving the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4/2026).
YLKI’s daily administrator, Rio Priambodo, stated that this handling should range from medical treatment to physical and psychological recovery, including full responsibility from the operators towards all victims.
“Victim protection must be the top priority, both for the injured victims and those who have passed away, including physical and psychological recovery,” Rio said in a written statement on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
On the other hand, YLKI questions the reliability of the existing safety systems.
According to him, this accident indicates potential weaknesses in the early warning system and safety mechanisms that should be able to prevent such incidents.
“In this era of technology, the failure of safety systems is a serious indication that must not be ignored,” he emphasised.
YLKI also highlights the importance of certainty of compensation for victims.
The government is urged to actively ensure that the compensation process runs quickly, transparently, and without complications.
In addition, YLKI calls on the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to immediately conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to uncover the cause of the accident, including possible factors of human error or system failure.
“The investigation must be conducted thoroughly to ensure whether this is due to force majeure or there are indications of negligence,” Rio said.
Furthermore, YLKI encourages an evaluation of train facilities, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and people with disabilities.
The placement of carriages, including women’s special carriages, is deemed necessary to be reviewed from a safety perspective.
Not only that, the institution also emphasises the importance of improving the railway crossing system, including the regulation of illegal crossings by local governments to prevent similar accidents.
In the context of services, YLKI reminds operators to provide clarity to passengers regarding departure schedules, rescheduling, and refunds.
