Arena for power struggle
From Republika
Now that the 2004 general election is drawing near, we are witnessing how many people are busy registering themselves as legislative candidates. Many of these people have little contribution to the well-being of the nation but are very much concerned about how to be elected members of the legislative body.
Any good citizen will wonder what will happen to this beloved Republic in the hands of these opportunists. It is an open secret that these people are interested only in their own affairs and have little concern for the interests of the people. As they need a lot of money to campaign and be elected as a legislative candidate, they will try to collect as much money as possible once they sit in the legislative body to make up for what they have spent now.
In the run-up to the general elections, the public can also witness the maneuvers of a big number of crooked power-hungry politicians. They make sweet promises to win the hearts and minds of the people in the hope that they will be elected.
These politicians must remember that their immediate and most important task once they are elected members of the legislative body will be to get this country out of its present crisis and restore its dignity.
