Arema, PSMS win Copa semifinals

YOGYAKARTA: Striker Emalev Serge scored twice as Arema Malang inflicted a 2-0 defeat on host PSS Sleman in the first leg of their semifinal in the 2005 Copa Indonesia soccer competition on Thursday.

Emalev scored for the East Java team in the 21st minute off a cross from Franco Hita. He scored again with a header in the 76th minute, Antara news service reported.

In the other semifinal in Medan, host team PSMS overcame Persija Jakarta 2-1 in their first leg.

The visitors went ahead in the 20th minute thanks to Ismed Sofyan, but I Komang Adyana scored in the 43rd minute to tie the score.

PSMS took a winning lead in the 79th minute thanks to Alcidio Fleitas. -- JP
