Are You a Morning Person? Here Are the Signs
Morning person is the term for individuals who have a biological tendency to wake up and be active earlier. In scientific terms, this condition relates to the circadian rhythm, the body’s internal clock that regulates the sleep–wake cycle over 24 hours. According to Sleep Foundation, the circadian rhythm is influenced by light, the hormone melatonin, and daily habits. People with the morning chronotype usually feel most energized in the morning through the early afternoon, then become sleepy earlier in the evening. A neuroscientist and sleep expert from the University of California, Berkeley, Matthew Walker, in his book Why We Sleep, explains that differences in chronotypes are biological and not merely a matter of habit. In other words, being a morning person or a night owl is not simply a matter of discipline, but also influenced by internal body factors. They can even wake up before the alarm goes off. Energy and focus are at their peak in the morning. Jobs requiring high concentration are usually easier to complete before noon. They typically feel sleepy earlier at night, for example around 9:00–10:00 PM, and have a consistent sleep schedule.
