Architectural works on display
JAKARTA (JP): An architectural exhibition featuring works of 17 renowned German architects from the Weissenhofsiedlung school will be held here from Sept.27 to Oct.7.
The exhibition being held by the Goethe Institut in cooperation with the Jakarta Design Center and the Indonesian Architects Association will be opened by the director general of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Prof. Edy Sediawati, and German Ambassador to Indonesia Heinrich Seemann.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on the ground floor of the Jakarta Design Center at Jl. Gatot Subroto No. 53, Slipi, Central Jakarta. Following the opening, Prof. Karin Kirsch, the curator of the exhibition, will deliver a lecture titled "The Weissenhof Estate -- Demonstration and Manifesto."
On display will be various model houses, photos, documents, posters and model Weissenhofsiedlung furniture.
Celebrated architects Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius are among the 17 architects whose works will be on display during the exhibition. Van der Rohe and Gropius are noted for their remarkable and bold yet controversial works of modern architecture which have earned them both kudos and criticism.(bas)
