ARC USK: Warehouse Receipt System to become trade innovation for national patchouli industry
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Atski Research Center at Syiah Kuala University (ARC USK) Banda Aceh has stated that the implementation of the Warehouse Receipt System (SRG) for patchouli oil represents a significant innovation in the national patchouli industry’s trade management, as it can maintain stock availability.
“The SRG is a crucial trade innovation for the national patchouli industry,” said the Chairman of ARC USK Banda Aceh, Syaifullah Muhammad, when confirmed from Banda Aceh on Thursday.
Syaifullah Muhammad made this statement following a presentation of the feasibility study for the patchouli oil SRG during a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Feasibility Analysis of Patchouli Oil as a Commodity within the Warehouse Receipt System” in Jakarta.
He noted that the study of the patchouli SRG ecosystem was conducted to comprehensively measure the feasibility of patchouli oil. Parameters included commodity quality, economic value, regulatory readiness, warehouse feasibility, the presence of quality assessment institutions, banking support, the role of research and innovation institutions, and the readiness of warehouse managers.
According to him, the implementation of the SRG can help maintain the availability of patchouli oil stocks, including both light patchouli and dark patchouli varieties, in accordance with international market standards.
“This step also serves to ensure that farmers and distillers receive rapid payment for their production results,” he added.
The study, he continued, was directed towards assessing the readiness of patchouli oil as an SRG commodity, ensuring the system functions as more than just a storage facility.
“The SRG also serves as an instrument for quality standardisation, traceability, financing, deferred sales, supply consolidation, and strengthening market access for Indonesian patchouli oil,” said Syaifullah Muhammad.
For information, based on the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 14 of 2026 regarding Goods and Requirements for Goods that Can be Stored in the SRG, there are currently 30 types of commodities regulated, which does not yet include patchouli oil.
Therefore, fulfilling technical prerequisites and establishing new regulations is a vital step for the next stage of SRG implementation.
Regarding this matter, the Project Manager of Promise II Impact at the International Labour Organization (ILO), Djauhari Sitorus, expressed hope that the results of the ARC USK study could be promptly followed up with field implementation.
“We hope that patchouli can soon be established as the 31st commodity in the SRG, so that the implementation of this system can be immediately applied within the community,” said Djauhari.
