Cairo (ANTARA) — Iran will welcome any regional initiative that leads to a fair resolution of conflicts in the Middle East, said Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday (15 March).

On Friday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country would consider every initiative to strengthen unity in the Middle East and restore stability, security, and peace in the region.

“Currently, there is no specific initiative to end the war. We will welcome any regional initiative that leads to the war ending fairly,” Araghchi said in an interview with the newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.

Iran subsequently responded by attacking Israeli territory and American military facilities in the Middle East.

The US and Israel initially justified the strikes as “preventive” measures to counter threats they considered to stem from Iran’s nuclear programme, but later acknowledged that they sought to encourage a change of power in Iran.
