Arafah Iftar Times 2026: Jogja and Surrounding Areas Schedule
Today, Tuesday, 26 May 2026, Muslims are observing the Arafah fast, which carries significant spiritual merit. As with other fasts, the Arafah fast concludes at sunset. What time is this?
The Quran specifies the time for breaking the fast at sunset, marked by the Maghrib call to prayer. Specifically, in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 187, Allah SWT states: “وَكُلُوْا وَاشْرَبُوْا حَتّٰى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الْاَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْاَسْوَدِ مِنَ الْفَجْرِۖ ثُمَّ اَتِمُّوا الصِّيَامَ اِلَى الَّيْلِۚ” which translates to: “Eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until night…”
When the time arrives, Muslims are encouraged to break their fast promptly, as advised by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Therefore, knowing the exact Iftar time is essential.

Arafah Iftar Supplication
There is no specific supplication exclusively for Arafah Iftar. Therefore, Muslims can use the following Iftar supplication:
ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوْقُ وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْشَاءَ الله
Transliteration: Żahabaẓ-ẓamā’u wabtallatil-’urūqu wa ṡabatal-ajru insyā’allāh.
Translation: “Thirst has departed, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, Allah willing.” (Reported in Abu Dawud 2/306 and Shahihul Jami’ 4/209)
According to the book “Kumpulan Doa dari Al-Quran dan Hadits” by Syaikh Sa’id bin Wahf al-Qahthani, this supplication is recited after breaking the fast with food or drink, not before.
To begin drinking water or eating dates after a day of fasting, Muslims should recite Bismillah (in the name of Allah) and conclude with Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) before reciting the Iftar supplication.
Sunnah Practices for Breaking the Arafah Fast
Compiled from sources including “Fikih Puasa dari Matan Abu Syuja” by Muhammad Abduh Tuasikal, “Adab-Adab Makan Seorang Muslim” by Aris Munandar, “Sifat Puasa Nabi SAW dan 20 Amalan Ringkas di Bulan Ramadhan” by Raehanul Bahraen and Rafif Zufarihsan, “Fikih Muyassar” translated by Fathul Mujib, and NU Online, the following are the sunnah practices for breaking the fast:
- Break the fast promptly when the time arrives
Translation: “People will remain in goodness as long as they hasten to break the fast.” (Reported in Bukhari no 1957 and Muslim no 1098)
- Begin with Bismillah and conclude with Alhamdulillah
“Wahai anakku, jika engkau hendak makan ucapkanlah bismillah, makanlah dengan tangan kananmu dan makanlah makanan yang berada di dekatmu.” (HR Thabrani dengan derajat sanad shahih menurut Syaikh al-Albani)
Translation: “O my child, when you eat, say Bismillah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is nearest to you.” (Reported in Thabrani with a sound chain according to Sheikh al-Albani)
“Sesungguhnya Allah ridha terhadap seorang hamba yang menikmati makanan lalu memuji Allah sesudahnya atau meneguk minuman lalu memuji Allah sesudahnya.” (HR Muslim no 2734)
Translation: “Allah is pleased with a servant who eats and praises Him afterward or drinks and praises Him afterward.” (Reported in Muslim no 2734)
- Break the fast with dates
Translation: “The Prophet (PBUH) would break his fast before praying with fresh dates; if unavailable, with dried dates; and if not, with a few sips of water.” (Reported in Ahmad no 163 and Abu Dawud no 306)
- Make personal supplications
Translation: “Three supplications are never rejected: that of the fasting person until they break their fast, the just ruler, and the oppressed.” (Reported in Tirmidzi no 2526 and Baihaqi no 3/345)
Note: The authenticity of this hadith is debated among scholars. Imam Tirmidzi considered it weak and not continuous in chain, while Ibn Hajar deemed it fair. Sheikh al-Albani classified it as weak, whereas al-Mundziri considered it sound or fair. Allah knows best.
- Recite the Iftar supplication after breaking the fast
Syaikh Abu Bakar Muhammad Syatha explains that the Iftar supplication should be recited after breaking the fast, not before or during. This is detailed in the book Hasyiyah I’anatut-Thalibin, Volume 2, page 279.
That concludes the brief overview of Arafah Iftar times for 26 May 2026 in Jogja and surrounding areas. May it be beneficial.
