JAMBI (Antara): The Jambi plantation service has encouraged farmers to grow Arabica coffee, which has bright domestic as well as foreign market prospects, an official of the provincial administration said here Tuesday.

Head of Jambi plantation service, Amrie Ramli, said that coffee a highland plantation crop, was cultivated in the upland plains of Kerinci and Sarolangun Bangko districts and most of the coffee cultivated in these districts was of the Robusta variety.

Data from the Jambi plantation service shows that the total coffee cultivated area in Jambi has at present reached 25,565 hectares with a production of 4,889 tons.

Due to a severe attack of clove pests most of the clove trees in the upland plains of Jambi have been cut down and replaced by other plantation crops such as rubber and coffee.

The availability of more land is a very favorable opportunity to grow more coffee, particularly Arabica coffee which is much in demand in the foreign market, Ramli said.
