JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, has targeted the completion of subsidised housing flats in Meikarta, Bekasi, West Java, by August 2028. The project for low-income households is currently on schedule, with foundation work and test piling underway. Ara, along with Deputy Head of BP BUMN Tedi Bharata, Acting Bekasi Regent Asep Surya Atmaja, and Meikarta developer James Riady, conducted a site visit to assess progress. The subsidised housing initiative is part of government efforts to provide decent, affordable housing close to workplaces for low-income residents, particularly industrial workers in Bekasi and surrounding areas. ‘Currently, construction has reached the test pile stage. Of the planned 8,600 piles, 1,836 have been installed,’ Ara wrote in his official Instagram account @maruararsirait on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Construction began with land clearing in February 2026, followed by groundbreaking in March 2026, with structural work scheduled to commence in August 2026. The government aims to complete the project and hand it over in phases by August 2028. Ara stated the government is committed to ensuring the subsidised housing project proceeds swiftly, accurately, in compliance with regulations, and maintains building quality for residents. He noted Meikarta and its vicinity is one of Southeast Asia’s largest industrial zones, with thousands of factories and millions of workers, making proximity to workplaces crucial for housing needs. The government expressed appreciation to all involved parties, including BP BUMN, local authorities, and private sector stakeholders, for supporting housing provision for citizens.
