The Self-Assisted Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme in Tomohon City, North Sulawesi, is confirmed to begin operations next Tuesday. This assurance was conveyed by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, alongside the Interior Minister (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian and the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, during their direct inspection of a house owned by Angli Novry Juan Tendean, a daily wage labourer, in Tomohon City on Thursday (9/4/2026). During the inspection, Ara directly observed the condition of the house, which experiences leaks during rain and is deemed in need of immediate repairs. She requested that the renovation process not be delayed. “The funds are already available, the Head of the Regional Office has promised. On Tuesday at 12 noon, it will start being renovated, don’t take too long. Hopefully, in three months, it will already be changed,” Ara emphasised. “Last year there were none, now there are 504 BSPS units in Tomohon. This year we will repair around 500 units. If we reach 50 percent, then next year the problem of uninhabitable houses in Tomohon can be resolved, because the number of substandard housing units (RTLH) is around 1,000 units,” she explained. Meanwhile, Tito appreciated Ara’s step of going directly to the field to ensure the programme runs as planned. “These are direct field steps, not just talking in the office. Going down directly to check to convince that whoever does what will really be checked. If it doesn’t run, there will definitely be sanctions. This is a good leadership model, really action in the field,” Tito stated. On the other hand, BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti conveyed that the visit was also used to verify data for aid recipients. Based on the field check, the recipient who was previously recorded in decile 5 was deemed more appropriately in decile 1 or 2. “We recheck, this should not be decile 5 but more towards decile 1 or 2. We will correct it immediately. This is already on target,” she concluded.
