The Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements (PKP) and the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) have agreed to renovate 10,000 uninhabitable homes (RTLH) owned by parents of People’s School (SR) students in 2026 through the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme.

The agreement was discussed in a meeting between PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait and Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, on Monday (11/5/2026).

The meeting forms part of strengthening inter-ministerial synergy to support the People’s School programme and the 3 Million Homes programme, which are among President Prabowo Subianto’s national priorities.

Gus Ipul stated that the People’s School is designed to reach poor and vulnerable communities in various regions with support from district governments.

He also expressed appreciation for the support from the Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements in implementing the programme.

“Supported by the Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements. I am very grateful to the PKP Minister who from the start has given serious attention to the organisation of the people’s school,” he continued.

In the discussion, the two ministries also addressed the national housing backlog, which stands at around 26.9 million homes.

The government views the provision of decent housing as an important part of supporting education and improving the quality of life for the community.

The People’s School programme is currently spread across 166 locations throughout Indonesia, with approximately 14,913 students and around 13,942 parents.

This data serves as the basis for determining the targets for housing intervention through the BSPS scheme.

Meanwhile, Ara emphasised the importance of communication and data integration between ministries to ensure programmes run on target.

“Communication and data from Kemensos are very important in synergising with housing programmes, for example, with the home renovation programme, one of which we have already carried out,” said the PKP Minister.

One of the main points discussed was support for renovating uninhabitable homes for families of People’s School students. The programme is aimed at communities that already have homes but whose conditions are not yet habitable.

“We have decided to allocate the BSPS programme in the amount requested by the Ministry of Social Affairs, namely 10,000. We agree with and support these 10,000, congratulations Gus, may it be beneficial, and I ask that it can bring happiness, especially that the programme can be successful,” he stated.

In addition to discussing the technical implementation of the programme, the two ministries also discussed several strategic issues related to the People’s School and the 3 Million Homes programme, including plans for field visits to ensure readiness for programme implementation in the regions.

The collaboration between the Ministry of PKP and the Ministry of Social Affairs is expected to accelerate the handling of uninhabitable homes while strengthening the education ecosystem based on community welfare.
