Aquatic Development Boosted by New World-Standard Pool
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The daily chairman of the Indonesian Aquatics Federation (PB Akuatik Indonesia), Harlin E. Rahardjo, stated that the presence of a new World Aquatics-standard swimming pool at Athlon Sawangan, Depok, West Java, can support athlete development while strengthening the national aquatic sports ecosystem.
Harlin assessed that the facility not only supports athlete development but also has a positive impact on coaches, competition organisers, and sports industry players.
“This swimming pool was built according to World Aquatics standards. With a facility like this, not only athletes will develop, but also coaches, event organisers, and sports industry players,” Harlin said in an official statement following the inauguration of Athlon Sawangan on Saturday.
The Olympic-sized swimming pool is located within the Athlon Sawangan sports complex in Bojongsari, Depok City.
Harlin is optimistic that the presence of an international-standard facility can help produce more aquatic athletes capable of bringing honour to Indonesia in various international competitions.
According to him, high-achieving aquatic athletes have the potential to make a significant contribution to Indonesia’s medal tally at multi-event competitions.
“If we have one or two truly outstanding athletes, they could contribute more than five gold medals at a multi-event competition. That would certainly be a major contribution for Indonesia,” he said.
“The presence of this facility makes us very optimistic. Here we have an international-standard gymnastics training building and an international-standard swimming pool,” said Marciano.
He believes the facility can be a birthplace for athletes who will strengthen Indonesia in various championships.
“I am confident that Athlon Sawangan will produce Indonesia’s future athletes,” he said.
The swimming pool is part of a sports complex spanning approximately 15 hectares developed by PT Bakrieland Development Tbk. In addition to the aquatic facility, the complex features an international-standard gymnastics building.
President Director of PT Bakrieland Development Tbk, Resza Adikreshna, said the development of the complex is aimed at building an integrated athlete development system.
“We want this complex to become a new sports ecosystem capable of creating and nurturing future sports stars,” said Resza.
Facilities for badminton, basketball, tennis, and pickleball are also planned to be built in stages to complete the complex.
