Aqsa Working Group urges Indonesia to strengthen support for Palestine

The humanitarian organisation Aqsa Working Group has urged the Indonesian government to strengthen its support for Palestine, not only through political diplomacy but also by severing economic relations with parties affiliated with Israel.

The call was made by the Aqsa Working Group through a statement of position to commemorate 57 years since the tragedy of the Al-Aqsa Mosque arson on Thursday (21/8), as well as the 18th anniversary of the organisation’s founding.

According to an AWG press release issued on Friday, the organisation believes that support for Palestine must be carried out comprehensively and in line with the constitutional mandate and humanitarian values.

“The Indonesian government is expected to fulfil the Asta Cita political pledge to reject all economic interests affiliated with entities that commit violations of international humanitarian law,” said AWG.

The organisation also highlighted trade relations and economic interests that it said have links to Israel. It urged the government to reject economic interests deemed capable of strengthening Israel in the conflict with Palestine.

AWG called on the UN to expel Israel from membership of the body and to revoke the mandate of the Board of Peace.

In addition, AWG also urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to strengthen its role in protecting the Al-Aqsa Mosque and fighting for Palestinian independence by setting aside short-term pragmatic politics.

To the international community, AWG called for strengthened support for Palestine through increased literacy, humanitarian aid, mass action, and boycotts of products and interests deemed affiliated with Israel.

AWG called on the Palestinian people to remain steadfast and continue fighting for their rights to the land of Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
