Aqsa Working Group Condemns US Attempts to Weaken ICC
The Aqsa Working Group has condemned the United States government’s efforts to weaken the International Criminal Court under the pretext of protecting its national sovereignty. AWG Presidium Chairman Muhammad Anshorullah described the move as a form of political intervention against an international judicial institution and a serious threat to the international legal order. Anshorullah assessed that the US action is aimed at shielding Israel from international legal proceedings, particularly after the ICC issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Palestine. AWG reiterated that genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and Israel’s apartheid policies against the Palestinian people must not go unpunished. The group rejected all forms of sanctions, intimidation, visa restrictions, diplomatic pressure, and threats against judges, prosecutors, staff, and countries that support the ICC’s work, stressing that the independence of international judicial institutions must be safeguarded from the political pressure of major powers. AWG also urged member states of the Rome Statute to continue supporting the ICC and to reject any form of political or financial pressure against the institution. Anshorullah called on the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League, the Non-Aligned Movement, the African Union, and all countries to provide tangible support for the ICC’s independence and sustainability in combating global impunity. The group expressed hope that the Indonesian government would remain consistent in supporting the enforcement of international law regarding war crimes and genocide in Palestine, strengthen accountability through diplomacy, and consider its membership in the Board of Peace. AWG invited all Muslims and the Indonesian public to continue strengthening solidarity with the Palestinian struggle, increasing humanitarian support, and intensifying the boycott movement against entities that support Zionist Israeli occupation and genocide until Palestine is free and the Al-Aqsa Mosque is liberated.
