The Indonesian Association of Private Higher Education Institutions (APTISI) has partnered with PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (SURGE) to accelerate digital transformation within private higher education institutions (PTS). The collaboration focuses on expanding internet access, strengthening digital campus services, and developing artificial intelligence (AI)-based learning platforms.

The collaboration, formalised by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology’s auditorium in Jakarta on Tuesday (26 May), encompasses the ecosystem of 4,095 PTS under APTISI’s umbrella across Indonesia.

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that digital transformation is a crucial step to expand access and enhance the quality of national higher education.

‘Digital transformation is a fundamental foundation for improving higher education quality, expanding access, and strengthening universities’ relevance to national development needs,’ said Brian.

APTISI Central Chairman Muhammad Budi Djatmiko said strengthening digital infrastructure is an urgent need for PTS, particularly to expand higher education access across regions.

He added that achieving the national higher education gross enrolment ratio (GER) target of 40% by 2029 would be more realistic with widespread campus digitisation, distance learning, blended learning, and AI-based academic platforms.

‘If Indonesia aims to significantly increase the higher education GER, PTS must be strengthened. It is impossible for national higher education GER to rise without involving private institutions,’ said Budi Djatmiko.

In implementation, APTISI and SURGE have prepared several strategic programmes, including phased internet access provision for campuses, bundled connectivity with digital academic services, and the development of AI-based learning ecosystems to support both academic and non-academic campus activities.

The connectivity services will utilise SURGE’s infrastructure through IRA fixed broadband solutions based on 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and Starlite services using Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH). This technology combination is expected to accelerate internet access equity for campuses across regions.

PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk’s President Director Yune Marketatmo said the company is committed to supporting technology-based education equity in Indonesia.

‘Through strategic collaboration with APTISI, SURGE is committed to expanding digital connectivity access, enhancing learning quality, and accelerating technology-based education equity across Indonesia,’ he said.
