JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded an inflation rate of 0.13 per cent for April 2026 on a monthly basis. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose from 110.95 in March to 111.09 in April.

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono, stated that the largest monthly inflation came from the transportation group. This group recorded inflation of 0.99 per cent with a contribution of 0.12 per cent.

“In April 2026, inflation was 0.13 per cent on a monthly or month-to-month basis, or there was an increase in the consumer price index from 110.95,” he said in a BPS release at the BPS Central Office on Monday (4/5/2026).

Other commodities that contributed to inflation included cooking oil with a contribution of 0.05 per cent, tomatoes 0.03 per cent, and rice and rice with side dishes each 0.02 per cent.

Several commodities recorded deflation. Broiler chicken contributed deflation of 0.11 per cent. Jewellery gold 0.09 per cent. Bird’s eye chilli 0.06 per cent. Broiler eggs 0.04 per cent.

Based on components, inflation was driven by the core component, which rose 0.23 per cent with a contribution of 0.15 per cent. Main commodities included cooking oil, rice with side dishes, mobile phones, fried chicken, laptops or notebooks, and granulated sugar.

The government-regulated price component rose 0.69 per cent with a contribution of 0.13 per cent. The increase was triggered by air transportation tariffs, petrol, household fuel, and machine-made clove cigarettes.

The volatile price component recorded deflation of 0.88 per cent with a contribution of minus 0.15 per cent. Main commodities consisted of broiler chicken, bird’s eye chilli, broiler eggs, and red chilli.

On an annual basis, April 2026 inflation reached 2.42 per cent. The CPI rose from 108.47 in April 2025 to 111.09 in April 2026.

The food, beverages, and tobacco group became the main driver with inflation of 3.06 per cent and a contribution of 0.90 per cent. Main commodities included fresh fish, broiler chicken, rice, cooking oil, machine-made clove cigarettes, and broiler eggs.

The personal care and other services group recorded inflation of 11.43 per cent with a contribution of 0.77 per cent.

All components recorded annual inflation. The core component rose 2.44 per cent with a contribution of 1.56 per cent. Main drivers consisted of jewellery gold, cooking oil, rice with side dishes, and tuition fees.

The volatile price component rose 3.37 per cent with a contribution of 0.56 per cent. The government-regulated price component rose 1.53 per cent with a contribution of 0.30 per cent. Main drivers included air transportation tariffs as well as machine-made and hand-rolled clove cigarettes.
