April 2026 Inflation Reaches 1.06 Per Cent, Transportation Becomes the Largest Contributor
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the monthly inflation rate in April 2026 was recorded at 0.13 per cent (month to month/mtm). The main contributor to inflation in April 2026 came from the transportation sector.
“In April 2026, monthly inflation reached 0.13 per cent or there was an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 110.95 points in March 2026 to 111.09 points in April 2026,” said Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, during a press conference at the BPS Building on Monday (4/5/2026).
The year-to-date (ytd) calendar inflation was recorded at 1.06 per cent. Meanwhile, on a year-on-year (yoy) basis, inflation reached 2.42 per cent.
“The largest contributor to monthly inflation came from the transportation group with inflation of 0.99 per cent and an inflation contribution of 0.12 per cent,” he said.
Ateng explained that the dominant commodities driving inflation in the transportation group were air transport fares with an inflation contribution of 0.11 per cent and petrol with 0.02 per cent.
“Inflation was contributed by the increase in air transport fares and petrol prices in line with the rising prices of avtur and various types of non-subsidised fuels (BBM). Meanwhile, intercity transport fares experienced deflation in April after previously experiencing inflation,” he clarified.
Other commodities that also contributed to inflation in April 2026 included cooking oil with 0.05 per cent, tomatoes 0.03 per cent, and rice and meals with sides each at 0.02 per cent.
Meanwhile, several commodities still contributed to deflation, namely broiler chicken meat at 0.11 per cent, gold jewellery 0.09 per cent, cayenne pepper 0.06 per cent, and broiler chicken eggs 0.04 per cent.
Based on its components, the core component experienced inflation of 0.23 per cent with an inflation contribution of 0.15 per cent. Dominant commodities contributing to core inflation included cooking oil, meals with sides, mobile phones, fried chicken, laptops/notebooks, and granulated sugar.
The government-regulated prices component experienced inflation of 0.69 per cent with an inflation contribution of 0.13 per cent. Dominant commodities in this group included air transport fares, petrol, household fuels, and machine-rolled clove cigarettes (SKM).
Meanwhile, the volatile component experienced deflation of 0.88 per cent with a deflation contribution of 0.15 per cent. Dominant commodities contributing to deflation in this group were broiler chicken meat, cayenne pepper, broiler chicken eggs, and red chillies.
