Approved! Pertagas Officially Becomes Operator of Cisem 2 Gas Pipeline
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), as part of the Gas Subholding of PT Pertamina (Persero), has been officially appointed as the operator of the Batang-Cirebon-Kandang Haur Timur (Cisem II) natural gas transmission pipeline. The appointment was made in April 2026 after Pertagas won the tender process held by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through the BLU LEMIGAS. The management of the Cisem Stage II pipeline assets was assigned to LEMIGAS based on Ministerial Decree No. 125.K/MG.01/MEM.M/2026. Subsequently, LEMIGAS collaborated with partners in utilising those assets. Pertagas President Director Indra P. Sembiring stated that this assignment represents an important milestone for the company’s role, having previously been appointed as operator of Cisem I since 2023. According to him, the presence of integrated and reliable natural gas infrastructure is key to accelerating the national energy transition based on natural gas. “The availability of integrated and reliable gas infrastructure is key to accelerating the national energy transition with natural gas. The energy supplied will increase upstream oil and gas lifting, meet industrial needs, and create new job opportunities,” he said on Monday (11/05/2026). The Cisem 2 pipeline, Indra added, is a Strategic National Project (PSN) of the Ministry of ESDM that integrates natural gas pipeline infrastructure in Indonesia. Natural gas wells will more easily and widely reach gas users’ markets, as the current infrastructure is connected through the Gresik-Semarang Transmission Pipeline and the Cirebon-Semarang pipeline, enabling gas supply to industries in West Java. As is known, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) officially flowed first gas (gas-in) for testing the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) Stage II natural gas transmission pipeline project in mid-March 2026. The inauguration was conducted by Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot Tanjung on Wednesday (18/3/2026), after all Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) work was completed on 5 March 2026, marked by the signing of Handover Minutes (BAST) 1. Pertagas Technical and Operations Director Agung Indri Pramantyo added that the Cisem II pipeline network is now integrated with the Cisem I pipeline section at the Batang Industrial Area Station (KITB) in Central Java, operated by Pertagas, and the Kandang Haur Timur (KHT) Station, part of Pertagas’s West Java Area operations. “This integration forms an integrated pipeline network system that will provide operational flexibility and reliability of natural gas infrastructure, particularly for the pipeline sections we operate,” Agung said. He added that the integration of Cisem II with the national natural gas transmission infrastructure within the Gas Subholding not only strengthens energy supply for strategic sectors such as refineries, fertiliser plants, and power generation, but also supports the government’s programme for Gas for Households and SMEs along the pipeline route. This effort is expected to expand energy access and strengthen national energy resilience. Furthermore, this integration also opens opportunities for increasing upstream oil and gas lifting, optimising pipeline utilisation in the midstream, and meeting the growing gas needs of industries. “Thus, this project has a significant multiplier effect on national economic growth,” he added. As an energy infrastructure company, Pertagas reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting the integration of the national natural gas transmission network to strengthen energy resilience while driving domestic industrial growth.
