Approved! Domestic Workers Protection Bill Now Becomes DPR Legislative Initiative

Jakarta — The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has officially approved the Draft Law on Domestic Workers Protection (PPRT) as a DPR legislative initiative.

The approval was conducted during a plenary session chaired directly by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Initially, representatives from each of the eight parliamentary factions presented their faction’s opinion statements to the leadership regarding the PPRT bill.

Afterwards, Puan asked all present members of parliament whether the PPRT bill could be approved in the plenary session.

“With that, all eight factions have presented their respective faction opinions. Now it is time for us to ask the honourable parliamentary session whether the draft law on the legislative initiative of the DPR Baleg concerning Domestic Workers Protection, or PPRT, can be approved as a DPR legislative initiative?” Puan asked the members of parliament.

All members present in the plenary forum expressed their agreement.

Earlier, it was reported that Deputy DPR Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the Draft Law on Domestic Workers Protection (PPRT) and the Draft Law on Copyright would be brought to the plenary session on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Both draft laws would be approved as DPR legislative initiatives in the plenary session.

“Tomorrow’s plenary session, the DPR will approve at the plenary, that is one law on PPRT as a DPR legislative initiative and it will be discussed immediately to become a law,” said Dasco to journalists at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

“Second, tomorrow we will also formalise as a DPR legislative initiative the Copyright Law,” Dasco added.
