Approaching Eid al-Fitr, Beef Prices in Bangka Reach Rp150,000 per Kilogramme
As Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri approaches, demand for beef in Sungailiat, Bangka, Bangka Belitung Province, has experienced significant growth. This trend is evident at Kite Market in Sungailiat, one of the city’s major meat trading centres.
Tukiman, a meat vendor, stated that beef is currently being sold at Rp150,000 per kilogramme, up from the previous price of Rp140,000 per kilogramme. “Four days before Eid, beef prices have already risen by Rp10,000 per kilogramme,” Tukiman said on Tuesday (17 March).
The price increase, he acknowledged, originates from cattle distributors, forcing retailers to pass on the higher costs to consumers. Despite the price rise, consumer purchasing power for beef has actually increased substantially. Sales volume has jumped from the usual approximately 150 kilogrammes per day to 300 kilogrammes per day, as many residents seek beef for meals to be served during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebration.
The government has set a price corridor for beef at the consumer level within the range of Rp105,000 to Rp140,000 per kilogramme. One popular product is beef sold at Rp100,000 per kilogramme, considerably cheaper than market prices.
The Indonesian Association of Meat Processors and Traders (Jappdi) has called on the government not only to monitor beef trade but also to oversee imported buffalo meat circulating in the market. The government has set the private sector beef import quota for this year at only 30,000 tonnes, a sharp decline from 180,000 tonnes in 2025.
State-owned enterprise Perumda Dharma Jaya predicts beef prices will rise approximately 7 to 15 per cent during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026 period.
