Appreciation for Residents' Zebra Crossing Initiative, DPRD Urges Collaboration with Executive

Chair of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Yuke Yurike, has appreciated the residents’ initiative in creating a creative zebra crossing in the Tebet area. Nevertheless, she highlighted the aspect of safety that must remain the top priority, given that there are rules and standards that must be followed in traffic arrangements.

According to her, residents’ creativity should not be viewed merely as a violation, but rather as potential for collaboration.

“The intention is to help, and this must be appreciated. It’s just a matter of how the relevant agencies can sit down together, to see what complies with the rules and what needs to be adjusted,” she told the media on Tuesday (31/3).

Yuke emphasised that in the future, a comprehensive study is needed to determine which points allow for the implementation of creative zebra crossings without endangering road users. She also encouraged the DKI Provincial Government to involve communities as part of the public oversight and participation system.

“If managed together, this can become education as well as strengthening residents’ involvement in improving the city,” concluded the PDIP politician.
