Appreciation for IKN Development Progress, Muzani: Grand, Luxurious, and a Source of Pride
Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ahmad Muzani, has appreciated the acceleration of the Nusantara Capital (IKN) development. He assessed that its construction shows significant progress since his last visit in 2024. “Today, the MPR leadership visited IKN, and we thank the Head of the Authority for providing a detailed explanation of the development progress,” he stated in a written remark on Monday (21/4/2026). This was conveyed after receiving a presentation on IKN’s development from the Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono. He assessed that the IKN development has experienced a rapid leap with several infrastructures such as places of worship, authority offices, the Vice Presidential Palace, to the IKN airport that continue to be built. These facilities are said to be important supports for IKN’s readiness as the new government centre. In addition, the development of the legislative and judicial areas is said to have received approval from the President and is starting to enter the construction stage. This is assessed to further strengthen IKN’s position as a government centre that not only covers the executive but also the legislative and judicial branches. “This means the plan for IKN to become the state capital with a complete government centre is increasingly certain,” Muzani continued. Muzani hopes that the target utilisation of IKN as the state capital in 2028 can be realised. He assessed that the capital relocation is carried out gradually, both in terms of physical development and human resource readiness. “The relocation is done slowly but surely. This shows mature planning,” he said. Regarding financing, Muzani mentioned that budget support has been approved and is expected to be able to follow future development needs. He also mentioned plans for facilities such as apartments and landed housing for around 732 MPR members, whose designs have been approved by the President. “I think the building is very proud, reflecting Indonesia’s state architecture,” he said. He also gave a brief assessment of the IKN development progress. “One word: grand, luxurious, proud,” he concluded.
