Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung has appreciated the initiative of residents who created a zebra crossing on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta. The action was seen as a form of public concern and creativity in providing a crossing facility that had previously been lost. “For the zebra crossing creativity of the residents, I express my thanks,” Pramono said at the DKI City Hall on Tuesday (31/3). The zebra crossing made by the residents is quite unique. The crossing markings were not made with the conventional white line pattern, but rather using a design resembling the classic game character Pac-Man. This initiative arose because residents felt uneasy due to the absence of a crossing facility on that road section. Nevertheless, Pramono emphasised that the construction of zebra crossings cannot be done arbitrarily. He stated that there are technical standards that must be met, both nationally and internationally, to ensure the safety of road users. “Once again, we give appreciation to our creative friends, but we must return this to what has become the rules regarding zebra crossings,” he asserted. He assured that his side will carry out a redesign of the zebra crossing to comply with applicable provisions, without ignoring aspects of safety and its main function as a crossing facility. On the other hand, Pramono also conveyed an apology for the loss of the zebra crossing on Jalan Soepomo that triggered the residents’ initiative. He acknowledged that there are still community reports that have not been handled optimally. “We apologise for that, and that’s why I say I thank the residents’ creativity,” he said. Pramono added that an evaluation of the community complaint system through the JAKI application is continuously being carried out. He acknowledged that there are still reports that have been submitted repeatedly but have not been followed up. “In the JAKI meeting, there are indeed some reports that have been repeated several times without follow-up, so we will perfect that,” he emphasised.
