Abul Chair has officially assumed the position of Regional Secretary (Sekda) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and immediately highlighted the major challenges awaiting, especially in maintaining economic growth amid fiscal pressures.

The appointment of Abul was carried out by NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal on Thursday (9/4/2026), based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 29/TPA of 2026 dated 17 March 2026.

“Today’s appointment has been approved by President Prabowo Subianto,” said Iqbal, accompanied by NTB Deputy Governor Indah Dhamayanti Putri and NTB DPRD Chairman Baiq Isvie Rupaeda.

Iqbal stated that this appointment is to fill the definitive Sekda position, which was previously held by acting officials up to daily executors by Lalu Moh. Faozal and Budi Herman. He hopes that Abul can carry out his role as a bureaucracy developer in the NTB Provincial Government.

Meanwhile, Abul affirmed that the challenges ahead are not light, particularly related to fiscal pressures, basic services, and governance risks.

“Our challenges ahead are not light. Our challenges ahead are how to maintain growth amid fiscal pressures, basic services, and then governance risks. That is the most important,” said Abul.

He emphasised that strengthening bureaucratic governance must go hand in hand with efforts to maintain economic growth. According to him, the target of Prosperous NTB for the World cannot be achieved partially.

“We must not work alone. We must not be divided. Let us unite. And I was appointed not to belong to NTB, but appointed to own NTB,” he stated.

Consolidation and Synergy

Abul mentioned that his initial steps are to carry out internal consolidation and mapping within the regional apparatus organisations (OPD).

“I will also try to map first what is lacking, where and so on, and then we determine the steps,” he said.

As the Head of the Regional Government Budget Team (TAPD), he also emphasised the importance of maintaining synergy with the legislature and ensuring that the governor’s policies are translated quickly and measurably by the OPD.

“We ensure that the governor’s policies are translated quickly, accurately, and measurably by each. And that is our continuous work,” he said.

Abul also invited all parties to support the vision of Prosperous NTB for the World by strengthening cross-sector collaboration.

“So every individual in NTB then has an obligation for that. The Governor wants committed, loyal, and militant people. So I underlined earlier to build and then be loyal to the leadership, to the Unitary Republic of Indonesia, and to NTB,” Abul concluded.
