Appointed as Interim BI Governor, Here is Destry Damayanti's Profile

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Governor of Bank Indonesia Perry Warjiyo has officially resigned from his post. The news was announced directly by Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi at a press conference this morning at the Bank Indonesia (BI) building in Jakarta on Monday (27/7/2026).

The position of BI Governor will be taken over by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti. According to Prasetyo Hadi, Destry has been designated acting Governor of BI.

“In accordance with the mechanism, a presidential decree will be issued as notification, alongside the honourable departure of the Governor of Bank Indonesia,” said Prasetyo Hadi.

CNBC Indonesia sources revealed that Perry Warjiyo resigned due to health issues.

For information, Destry has served as Senior Deputy Governor of BI since 2019 and was reappointed for the 2024–2029 term.

Destry is not a newcomer to the national financial industry. Before taking up her position as a member of the deposit insurance agency (LPS), the Cornell University Master of Science graduate held several key posts, ranging from Chief Economist of Bank Mandiri, Chief Economist of Mandiri Sekuritas, Executive Director of the Mandiri Institute, to Chair of the Selection Committee for the Leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission.

Destry also served as Head of the Economics Task Force at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises during 2014–2015. She became increasingly well known to the public after being appointed a member of the LPS Board of Commissioners on 24 September 2015, based on Presidential Decree 158/M of 2015 dated 21 September 2015.

Long before entering the national economic stage, Destry was known as a tennis player in her teens, even competing at the SEA Games.

She developed a love for the sport from childhood, and her older siblings had already taken up tennis training before her.

However, a year after graduating from senior high school, she faced a choice between continuing her studies or focusing on tennis. She ultimately chose to study and enrolled at the University of Indonesia (UI), majoring in Economics with a concentration in Money and Banking. From there, her career path changed until she eventually became one of the leading figures of Bank Indonesia.
