Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo has officially resigned from his position. The news was delivered directly by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi during a press conference this morning at the Bank Indonesia building in Jakarta, Monday (27/7/2026). The position of BI Governor will be filled by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti. According to Prasetyo Hadi, Destry has been appointed as the interim BI Governor. “In accordance with the mechanism, a presidential decree will be issued regarding the honourable discharge of the Bank Indonesia Governor,” said Prasetyo Hadi. A CNBC Indonesia source revealed that Perry Warjiyo resigned due to health issues. For your information, Destry has served as Senior Deputy Governor of BI since 2019 and was re-elected for the 2024–2029 period. Destry is not a new figure in the national financial industry. Before holding a position as a member of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), the Cornell University Master of Science graduate held several important roles. These included Chief Economist of Bank Mandiri, Chief Economist of Mandiri Sekuritas, Executive Director of the Mandiri Institute, and Chair of the Selection Committee for the Corruption Eradication Commission leadership. Destry also served as Chair of the Economic Task Force at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises for the 2014-2015 period. Her public profile rose after she was appointed as a Commissioner of the LPS on 24 September 2015, based on Presidential Decree 158/M 2015 dated 21 September 2015. Long before entering the national economic stage, Destry was known as a teenage tennis athlete, even competing in the SEA Games. She had loved the sport since childhood, and her older siblings had also trained in tennis. However, a year after graduating from high school, she faced a choice between continuing her studies or focusing on tennis. Ultimately, she chose to study and enrolled at the University of Indonesia, majoring in Economics with a concentration in Money and Banking. From there, her career path changed, eventually leading her to become a leading figure at Bank Indonesia.
